BUSHRA’S BLOG POST

My decision to work at the farm was an event in my life I definitely appreciated. Working at a farm doesn’t sound fun nor intriguing for most people does it? But the feeling of it is what I enjoyed, the relaxation I yearned for, and the productivity I needed. I always viewed learning basic gardening/ farm skills as a necessity because I desired growing my own food and feeling the satisfaction of knowing that I took care of the plant from the beginning to the end.

Throughout my time on the farm, I acquired more knowledge of farming and how to take care of whatever you were growing. Everyday included different tasks to do, from harvesting basil in the greenhouse and harvesting onions to packaging produce and distributing it. It all ranged from what needed to be done that day. Of course, farm work is very tiring but it makes you feel fulfilled. I learned many intriguing new things such as a potato is the seed to growing a potato, for some reason, I have never heard about that in my fifteen years of living.

The people there were very significant in my liking of the farm. They always made you feel welcomed and always checked in with you. Their friendliness created the atmosphere of peace, togetherness, and liveliness. I am really grateful and thankful for having the opportunity to meet people like them. They made my time there for me more meaningful, even if I don’t show it. With the food they grow, they use it to help people all around the area with food insecurities, that was another reason I wanted to work there. We need more places like Grow: Johnson County.

To conclude, Working at Grow: Johnson County was an amazing experience I was privilege to participate in. From the lovely people to the tasks varying from day to day, it was all worth it. My limited knowledge of farming/gardening expanded from working there. Working there was something I’m glad I did.
